Uflex, India’s Flexi Packaging Giant Joins Hands with Italian Firm, Gears for Upgrade

Comiflex SRL, the popular Italian company has closed a deal with India’s largest global flexi packaging solution firm – Uflex. The collaboration confirms Comiflex’s intent of manufacturing its Gearless C.I. Flexo Printing Machines Uflex under the Technology Transfer Agreement. Ashok Chaturvedi, the Uflex MD has stated that his company will be marketing these gearless flex package printing machines all over the world.

Uflex is presently India’s largest firm to provide flex packaging solution and an emerging player in the industry. The firm has the highest level of packaging facilities spread across India and also has manufacturing facilities of packaging films in UAE, Egypt, USA, Poland and Mexico.

The engineering wing of the flex packaging giant – Uflex has begun manufacturing the central impression by CI flex printing press with eight-color and 1300mm web width in its Noida facility. The printing speed of this machine is – 400m per minute.

The collaboration of the two flex packaging firms took place during Drupa 2016 exhibition, where Uflex was one of the exhibitors. Ashok Chaturvedi said, “This is the first collaboration our company has made with CI flexo presses for manufacturing. The first customer will be Uflex’s converting division.”

The Ulfex MD added, “The machines are expected to be ready by the end of April and functional in the mid of the year. Once the converting unit approves of the machines, they will be marketed too.”

Most of the critical parts for the machines are being imported from Italy for now. At a later stage, the company’s dependence will gradually reduce on imported parts, as Uflex is expected to manufacture 80% of the components in India. Meanwhile, rest of the 20% of the parts will be imported.

Ashok Chaturvedi Uflex also confirmed the possibility of exporting components to Comiflex in future. He said: “I greatly appreciate this tie-up encourages the ethos and spirit of my government’s flagship scheme Make in India”.
