The Jat agitation in India has shown a very sad reality of the country where communities are willing to cause mindboggling national losses, damage businesses and cause such a public havoc to further their personal interests, says Mohit Aggarwal, entrepreneur of a major procurement and trading company Aastha Minmet India Pvt Ltd.

Mohit says, “None could imagine that the violence between communities would ever get this dirty.” And the nation cannot help but agree with Mohit. The damage caused by the Jat agitation that lasted almost ten days has been to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore as per ASSOCHAM and Rs 34,000 crore as per industry sources.

“Being from Bhiwani, referred to as Choti Kashi of India, a seat of spiritual learning, it’s pained me to see the horrific rowdyism of Jat community. I will not debate on the questionable political influence of the entire Haryana episode but would appeal to my Jat brothers on showing restrain and follow the constitutional law of our history rich Sovereign Country,” said Mohit when the protests were going on.Haryana Roadways was one of the most severely attacked targets with 33 buses set on fire and 99 partially damaged. Out of 387 total LPG companies, 185 are out of stock. What’s more is that 25 petrol pumps were also damaged.

The next fact never failed to be more shocking than the last one, says Mohit, as Hyundai and Chevrolet showrooms around Rohtak were burned down. More than 200 cars in stock were reported to be set on fire.Delhi faced one of the worst water scarcities as Munak Canal was damaged and needed 2 weeks for a full repair. Himachal Pradesh Tourism had also taken a hit due to the violent protests. Northern Railways was also damaged and estimated a loss worth 200 crores.Around 17,000 trees were felled by the protesters in order to block city roads, highways and railway tracks. The highest number of trees, around 5,100, were felled in Jind district, about 3,300 in Bhiwani district, 2,400 in Hissar district, 1,200 in Jhajjar district, 1,391 in Sonepat district, 1,020 in Kaithal district and 968 in Rohtak district, said a senior state Forest Department official .

With the reports of people vandalizing on roads, Mohit said, “The immensity of physical damage cannot be doubted but the sad state of affairs that it has reflected of caste consciousness in the country is the most disappointing.”
