Manipal University Dubai: Field Visit to DATE PALM TISSUE CULTURE LABORATORY, AL AIN
In order to get an insight of the application of plant tissue culture techniques in the field of “Agricultural biotechnology”, an educational tour to Date Palm Tissue Culture Laboratory (DPTCL) at Al Ain affiliated to the UAE University was arranged by Ms. Hussaina Banu on May 7, 2015. The students were taken to sterilization, media preparation, inoculation and incubation areas; and the tissue culture techniques were briefed to them stage-by-stage by the experts. The students were also taken to the green houses, where they observed the plant lets that were subjected to the hardening process. The intention of this field trip is to make the students understand the significance of plant tissue culture techniques for crop improvement.
