The basic principle behind the idea of net neutrality is that ‘all data is created equal’. This is the matter that trump administration is hovering over after two years of Obama’s a presidency.
What Obama’s presidency did was turn the internet into a utility, similar to electricity and water. Using any service such as e-mail, watching movies from your favorite streaming media device, downloading the music file or doing any stuff over the internet, would require you to pay the fee to the internet provider. Though, the cost of the service may vary according to the usage. Same way it does for the electricity or the water company.
The man who wants to bury the hatchet is Ajit Pai. He proposed that the regulations imposed by the Obama Administration must be unconfined, as they are real venom to net neutrality. He focused on the need to Undo what obama’s administration said, and not use the internet like a 1930’s facility. Mr Pai asserted that under his proposal, the federal government will stop micromanaging the internet. Instead, the FCC would simply require internet service providers to be transparent about their practices.
But content companies and internet giants such as Google and Amazon warn that overturning net neutrality would end up making telecom companies, a view Pai intensely disagrees with.
Though, it is still not clear if Pai had full support of the president to undo the Obama’s net neutrality decision or whether he has gotten into roots of the issues. Though, it is likely to be positive as with three Republican and two Democratic commissioners, the move is all but certain to be approved. Trump, a Republican, expressed his opposition to net neutrality in 2014 before the regulations were even implemented, calling it a “power grab” by Obama. Pai is expected to have to his plan approved at the FCC meeting in December.
