Ever heard of an ultra-portable always-connected PC before? It’s all about a PC that doesn’t require a dongle, wifi, or tethering. Leading computer manufacturer Acer has joined hands with Gemalto to develop miniaturized embedded SIM (eSIM) into Swift 7 laptops by the brand.
The device has been designed to help users activate the default telecom operator profile which comes with the new Acer Swift 7. Using these eSIMs users will be able to port to their preferred mobile network operator, without changing SIMs anywhere on the globe.
These laptops are also targeted at could be helping in workplace mobility. With new concepts like Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), in which employees will be able to choose between a company-owned computer or their own personal device. Workplace mobility is also helping to cut down on time wasted on a commute and bringing creativity on the go. However, lack of proper policies and procedures around the use of mobile devices for work purposes provided free to access private company information over unsecured networks.
Talking about the new integrated technology, Jerry Hou, General Manager, Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer said: “With Gemalto’s proven expertise in eSIM deployment, the Acer Swift 7 can help professionals stay productive with flexible and seamless connectivity on the go.”
Gemalto has also partnered with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mobile PC platform for e-SIMs.
