Subrata Roy Sahara’s Mantras That’ll Help Balance Your Personal and Professional Life

The last time someone gave you an advice to better your professional life, you might have cringed due to the over-repeated generic counsels. It’s the same with personal life advices. They either tell you to wake up early in the morning (everyone has their own biological clock) or they tell you to be confident. Subrata Roy, the Managing Worker and Chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, has another take on how to balance your personal and professional life. It’s how he has grown into a successful businessman.

Subrata Roy was born on June 10, 1948 in an upper middle class family in Purnia, Bihar. With a technical and organized mind, he was able to complete a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Government Technical Institute, Gorakhpur. He was able to ace his studies by combining hard work with discipline and honesty.

He ensured that the work he was putting in, was productive and helped meet his objective. In his book Life Mantras, Roy explains that absolute honesty is must for success. This also aided him in reaching his goals.

Subrata Roy submerged himself in the waves of business development for 32 years. He also gained 18 years of experience in real estate. Time tempered him into the Managing Worker and Chairman of Sahara India Pariwar. It started in 1978 with the foundation of the company with an asset base of $43. Now, Sahara is worth $1.87 billion.

The Sahara Chairman was able to make this happen by differentiating his emotional sphere and figuring out what motivated him. It’s all explained in his book Life Mantras. Subrata Roy learned to self-motivate, rather than depend on money or esteem.

In his book, he explains that the emotional sphere of a child is restricted. It’s only when he grows up, his emotional sphere begins to expand and include people who are dear and near to him. If one wishes to be a great man, his emotional sphere should be big enough to include the society, the nation, and the world.

Another section of his book talks about four types of knowledge, viz., knowledge of life, knowledge of work subject, knowledge of workplace, and the knowledge of behavior. According to Subrata Roy, a strong command over these four types of knowledge can elevate one’s performance in personal and professional life.

Roy’s thoughts eventually pushed him to the top of the pyramid in the Indian market. Subrata Roy has been given the ITA – TV Icon of the Year (2007) award. He was conferred the Global Leadership Award in 2004. Subrata Roy won the Businessman of the Year Award (2002), the Best Industrialist Award (2002) and the National Citizen Award (2001). The India Today magazine listed him as one of the 50 Most Powerful People of India in 2003.
