The president of the United States, Donald Trump has shared his concern stating that he could be prosecuted after the Democrats take over the House. He saw it as a “real possibility”, according to a source close to him told CNN. However, Trump isn’t sure it would happen, the source revealed Monday night.
According to CNN, a different source close to the White House told that, “the only issue that may stick” in the impeachment process is the campaign finance violations tied to Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen’s payouts to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. Both the women have alleged that they had affairs with the current president.
The word about impeachment has increased recently after a filing from prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.
The prosecutors, in the filing said that the Cohen was being directed by Trump when he broke the law during the presidential campaign in 2016.
Democrats suggest that the offence committed by Trump is impeachable and he can be sent to jail after his presidential term comes to an end.
The incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Representative Jerry Nadler, said that the allegation on Trump, if proven, would constitute “impeachable offences”.
Democratic Senato Chris Coons also said on Monday that Trump could be indicted after he moves out of office.
Currently, the White House officials still do not comply with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion, which will lead to impeachment.
