K Raheja Corp’s new initiatives for World Green Building Week

With an aim to pace up the betterment process of communities in which it works, Chandru Raheja led K Raheja Corp shook hands with Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) to strengthen its cause for the World Green Building Week.

A frontrunner in the creation of green and sustainable workspaces and residential projects, K Raheja is a leader in the green building footprint in India. The total accounts to 45.70 million square feet with commercial and residential spaces combined. As a part of the holistic outreach program, numerous events were decided to be performed throughout the week. The company promoted green workspaces and explained the benefits of adopting the same to its employees and businesses.

Coffee Table Book: A collection of all the widespread business parks that have been precisely built based on green building, the Coffee Table Book showcases their creation from site selection to waste management. It also contains open landscapes and steps taken for water and power conservation.

Social Media Plan: Especially created to be released during the week, multiple videos were made for social media. The videos showcase the best practices at various business parks created by K Raheja Corp.

Observed annually across the globe, the ‘World Green Building Week’ focuses on green building practices and sustainability. It speaks of the initiatives that are beneficial for both the people and the organizations that are involved in building spaces. The week also acts as a source of encouragement for the companies striving to become green building friendly.

The Chairman of K Raheja Corp, Chandru Raheja and group president Ravi Raheja, who formerly chaired the Mumbai Chapter of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), are also active participants and supporters of the green movement. All the projects that fall under the umbrella of K Raheja Corp, be it residential, commercial, retail or hospitality, are built according to the green building standards. Also, they follow USGBC’s LEED rating program.

In the words of Gopala Krishnan Padmanabhan, MD of APAC & Middle East, Green Business Certificate Institute (GBCI), “Sustainability is a way of life and there is an increasing demand from corporates for sustainable and healthy workspaces. We hope to raise awareness on simple measures with this exercise, which will help create a better working and living environment.”

Some key highlights

  • The green building footprint of K Raheja Corp was 45.7 million square feet as in September 2018. Since 2007, after the signing of MOU with CII-Indian Green Building Council, all the commercial buildings constructed by the group fall under the green category.
  • 30 – 40 per cent operating costs are saved owing to green buildings
  • The total of LEED certified buildings for K Raheja Corp stands at 31 across the country. The company also has 69 LEED rating system registered projects registered by the US green building council.
