Blueleaf energy signs Solar PPA with Bosch Malaysia

Solar energy major Blueleaf energy (formerly known as Conergy) has announced a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Robert Bosch (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to provide the company required technology and services for the production of clean solar energy in its warehouse facility in Penang, Malaysia.

As per terms and agreements, Blueleaf energy will own the solar plant and will be responsible for designing, constructing and managing the asset of the 3 MWp power facility. Greencells Energy Asia Pacific, which is part of the German Greencells Group, will execute the project as the EPC contractor.

By 2nd quarter of the FY20, the newly established system is expected to supply power to Bosch with the aim of producing around 4,500 MWh of clean energy per year which is equivalent to powering 900 households in Malaysia. The development is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 3,300 tonnes.

Managing Director of Bosch Malaysia, Simon Song, said, “We are excited to form a long-lasting partnership with a competent and reliable player in the industry like Blueleaf energy. It is definitely an important milestone in our pursuit to reduce our CO2 output not only in Malaysia but globally. This is also in-line with Bosch’s four major levers, namely to increase energy efficiency, increase the proportion of renewables in its energy supply, buy-in more green power, and offset unavoidable carbon emissions. Everyone has a role to play in contributing to climate action, and we see it as our responsibility as a company to act now.”

CEO of Blueleaf energy, Marc Lohoff, said, “We are very proud to participate in the sustainability initiatives of a global technology leader like Bosch and assist them in their efforts to curb their carbon footprint. This project demonstrates how corporations have an increasing impact on shaping clean energy markets and how they can lead by example to help transform the way the world produces and procures renewable energy.”

As per Bloomberg New Energy Finance, in 2018, the corporations purchased 13.4GW of clean power through long-term contracts, approximately double than the previous year. Moreover, 48 per cent of Fortune 500 companies have sustainability targets.

With the increasing climate change mandates and the significant improvements in solar energy technology and costs, companies are putting their sustainable development goals into practice, pursuing renewable energy transactions and are increasingly getting committed to reducing their impact on the environment.
