Deol family tree: Journey from Ludhiana to Bollywood

The journey of Deol family to fame began with Dharmendra Deol and his brother Ajit Singh Deol. He is famously known as Dharma Paji among his peers, however, not many people are aware of the fact that his real name is Dharam Singh Deol.

Born into a Punjabi family to Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur in Nasrali, Punjab in 1983, he spent his early childhood days in the village, Sahnewal. Dharmendra Deol was always reluctant to go to school and often troubled his parents while going to attend his classes. Even after being the son of a school teacher, he did not study further after completing his 12^th standard. He was interested in movies from a very young age.

At the age of 19, he got married to Prakash Kaur and had four children (two daughters and two sons), namely, Ajay Singh Deol, Vijay Singh Deol, Vijeeta Deol and Ajeeta Deol. Ajay and Vijay, popularly known as Sunny and Bobby, respectively, followed their father’s footsteps while their sisters led a life away from the stardom and media.

Bobby Deol has acted in several popular movies like Gupt, Bichhoo, Players and Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo. Ghayal, The Hero, Big Brother, Damini, Arjun Pandit, Narsimha, Darr and Jo Bole So Nihaal are some of Sunny Deol’s most popular movies. The Father-Sons’ trio has starred in several movies together, namely, Yamla Pagla Deewana (and its sequels) and Apne.

In 1970s, while filming for Sholay, he fell in love with Hema Malini while he was still married. He then decided to divorce Prakash Kaur. However, she refused to divorce him which led him to convert his religion to Islam. Soon after the conversion, he went on to marry the actress.

Dharmendra and Hema have two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Both the daughters also entered the Bollywood industry. Ahana, however, has only done special appearances in movies or advertisements and is an aspiring director. She co-directed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish. She is also a professional Odissi dancer. Esha Deol is married to Businessman, Bharat Takhtani. Ahana is married to the director of Continental Carriers Pvt Ltd, Vaibhav Vohra.

Ajit Singh Deol, an actor and producer, married Usha Deol and had a son together. Ajit is famously known for his movies Pratiggya, Meherbaani and Putt Jattan De. His son, Abhay Deol, is also a distinguished Bollywood actor. He has also done several award winning movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dev.D, Aisha, Zero, Oye Lucky Oye and a famous Netflix movie, Chopsticks.

Bobby Deol has two sons Aryaman Deol and Dharam Deol. His youngest one is named after Bobby’s father Dharmendra. Sunny Deol also has two sons, Karan Deol and Rajvir Deol. While Bobby’s children have no plans to enter the star screen, Karan Deol has already debuted with Pal Pal Dil ke Paas and Rajvir is rumored to step inside the industry soon.
