Kangana Ranaut, an Indian actress and filmmaker, was born in a Rajput family in Himachal Pradesh and was stubborn and rebellious of her thoughts and ideations since childhood. Ranaut once quoted, “If my father would gift my brother a plastic gun and get a doll for me, I would not accept that. I questioned the discrimination.” Her love for experimenting with fashion trends, often resulted in her being called for her ‘bizarre’ choices. She intended to become a doctor on her parent’s choice, but the determination for space and freedom landed her in Delhi at a young age of sixteen, selecting modelling and acting as her career prospects.
Ranaut’s versatility and portrayal of a strong woman character in female-centric films made her one of the highest in-demand actresses in Bollywood. Her debut in 2006 thriller feature film, Gangster, was praised with a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. For the portrayal of an emotionally intense character in films like Fashion in 2008, she won the National Film award for best supporting actress. In addition to being a recipient of four National Film awards and five Filmfare awards, Kangana Ranaut also got featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list.
Ranaut’s hardwork of fifteen long years in the glitzy world was awarded with Padma Shri, country’s fourth highest civilian award “for being a model citizen of India”. She thanked the government of India by saying, “As an artist, I have received many awards, love and acknowledgement but today I have received an award for being a model citizen from this country, this government. I’m grateful.”
