A Day in the Life of an Animator

Welcome to this interview with an anime animator, who will be sharing with us a glimpse into their world of bringing ideas to life through the art of animation. In this session, we’ll explore the daily life of an anime animator, the challenges they face, and the triumphs they experience in creating something truly amazing. Our guest today will be drawing from personal experiences to provide insight into the creative process, teamwork, and perseverance required to deliver a quality product that connects with people and inspires them to dream and plunge into new worlds.

So, we start this Interview with the question everyone has on mind –

Q: What inspired you to become an anime animator?

I’ve always been drawn to the world of anime and the power of visual storytelling. The ability to bring characters and worlds to life through animation is something that has always fascinated me, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in this field.

My days are long and filled with hard work, but also incredibly rewarding. I start my day early in the morning and head straight to my desk, where I spend hours drawing and animating. I take breaks throughout the day to recharge and stay inspired, whether it’s by going for a walk or grabbing lunch with colleagues.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face as an anime animator?

One of the biggest challenges is working on tight deadlines. Each episode of an anime requires hundreds of hours of work, and we often have to sacrifice sleep and leisure time to meet the deadlines. There are also moments of intense focus and attention to detail that require me to shut out the world and just draw.

Q: Can you tell us about a particularly challenging situation you faced in your work as an anime animator?

One example was when I was working on the final fight scene of the third season of Attack on Titan. We realized that a major portion of the scene needed to be redone, which meant starting from scratch on a significant portion of the animation. Despite the tight deadline, we rallied as a team and worked around the clock to get the job done, and the final result was a triumph.

Q: How important is collaboration in the world of anime animation?

Collaboration is essential in this field. Working with other animators, writers, directors, and producers is a team effort, and everyone’s ideas and contributions are essential to bringing the story to life.

Q: What do you find most satisfying about your work as an anime animator?

The most satisfying aspect is seeing our work come to life on the screen and the joy it brings to our fans. The sense of purpose that comes from creating something that will connect with people and inspire them to dream and imagine new worlds keeps me going, even during the toughest moments.

In conclusion, being an anime animator is not just a job, it’s a passion that requires dedication, hard work, and creativity. Despite the challenges and long hours, the satisfaction of seeing your work come to life on the screen and the joy it brings to fans is unparalleled. The example of the Attack on Titan final fight scene shows that with teamwork and perseverance, even the most daunting challenges can be overcome. So, the next time you watch your favourite anime, remember that behind the scenes, there are talented animators who pour their hearts and souls into bringing these stories to life.
