A notable achievement during India’s G-20 presidency was the admission of the African Union as a permanent member—a move that aimed to give voice to an entire continent historically denied its rightful place. Jaishankar suggested that this step should inspire the United Nations, an older institution, to modernize the Security Council and enhance its credibility through broader representation.
