IMAX’s sets new world record with Avengers Endgame; movie beats previous record-holder Star Wars

Just as the news of Avengers Endgame being released in April surfaced, the IMAX screens have been pre-booked by the excited fans who want to see the concluding movie with the best experience. The movie Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, which also holds the mark of being the second Hollywood film to ever be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, set a new IMAX global opening weekend record of approximately $91.5 million, surpassing the previous record holder Star Wars: The Force Awakens, by substantial margin of 92%.

IMAX made 50 new opening weekend territory records in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Japan, India, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. IMAX has also established a new 5-day record of $42.4 million in China beating its previously-set record.

Avengers Endgame has been a blockbuster in the American region as well, grossing $26.5 million in IMAX, leaving behind the opening success of its prequel Avengers: Infinity War by (14%), and marking IMAX’s second highest-grossing domestic opening weekend ever.
