As humans continue to grow exponentially, impacting environment, Cleantech innovation and the green economy are being considered critically important, especially in the maritime sector, for it contributes significantly to climate change.
Furthermore, new aggressive regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) are prompting disruptive new ideas & creativity across the sector and forcing shipping companies to clean up their operations.
The new clean-tech startups are incentivizing the green revolution- Europe, in particular, being the epicenter. For instance, by designing and developing industrial autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) like WasteShark, RanMarine help in clearing plastics, bio-waste and other debris from ports & harbours (waterways).
The products designed by RanMarine can be used either manually via an onshore operator, or autonomously with online control and access, where WaterShark, one of its products, is capable of cleaning 500 kg debris per day without leaving any carbon footprints.
Recently, the Netherlands-based cleantech startup also raised funding from Luxembourg-based investment fund, Boundary Holding that invests in global AI technology-driven startups.
The investment fund has previously ventured into various facets of drone technology & investigative analytics solution, however, its recent funding is aimed at fostering the growth of green solutions to the complex problems associated with keeping the water bodies clean and carbon neutral.
Not too long ago, RanMarine also raised funding from EASME- European Union Executive Agency for SMEs. Investment by the Belgium-based executive agency helped the cleantech startup foray into designing round-the-clock waste and data collection system.
Since, waste in international waters in nobody’s direct responsibility, the world has been looking for an eco-friendly solution- to clean and maintain water health. ASV’s designed by RanMarine helps in around the clock monitoring and cleaning from waterways.
Thus, it is safe to assume, as consumers and environmentalists pressure companies to decarbonize shipping and emissions regulations tighten, the willingness to use cleaner, more inclusive shipping would increase, making Cleantech the best possible solution in the market.
