During US President Donald Trump’s visit to British royal family was reportedly not interested in meeting him, and left Queen Elizabeth to meet Trump on her own. According to The Sunday Times, both Prince Charles and much talked about son “snubbed” the President.
However, according to statements from the Buckingham Palace, Donald Trump and Melania’s visit to the UK was a “guest-of-government” visit, which did not require the presence of additional members of the royal family to be present. When Trump met the Queen, Charles, 69, was attending his company’s Board Meeting. His son William was participating in a charity polo match.
During a similar visit of an US President Barack Obama in 2016, Prince Philip, who is known for his culturally insensitive gaffes personally picked up Michelle and Barack Obama in his Range Rover. Prince Philip, William, Harry, Kate Middleton, and the Queen met Obama for lunch and dinner. This time though, the Queen sat with Trump for alone a half-hour tea and there was no royal member playing the role of a chauffeur.
On July 13, Trump met British Prime Minister Theresa May with hopes to discuss possible alliance activities. He insisted that the ‘special relationship’ between Britain and the United States is “the highest level of special.” As part of a special offering, Theresa May gifted Donald’s wife Melania a bottle of the Queen’s perfumer J Floris . He had also created a bespoke creation of unisex fragrance for the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
Earlier this year President Donald Trump wasn’t invited to the fairytale wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle. It’s not a hardline comment on what Prince Harry actually thinks about Trump, our guess is that it’s not a great sentiment. Probably Harry is just supporting his wife who is a woman right’s and empowerment activist – something that Trump isn’t very well known for. Just an odd guess.
Trump’s visit was marked by thousands of protesters greeting him in London and at his Turnberry golf course in Scotland.
