Establishing a foundation to build a decentralized internet, TRON has come up with an initiative to enter in the frame of content distribution. With its project atlas, BitTorrent will build a strong network of peer-to-peer, integrating all of its 100 million active users. These users will further be linked to the TRON blockchain. The protocol extensions by BitTorrent will add an in-client token economy, with an objective to increase the efficiency and accessibility for its user-base.
“Project Atlas is the foundation for a new way of content distribution. To start, the product will feature faster downloads, more seeds, no mining, and backward compatibility. It is adapted to the world we live in today: mobile, connected, and transparent. We aim to eventually empower all content creators and their communities by eliminating the middleman and enabling content creators to distribute directly to users,” said Justin Sun, Founder, and CEO of TRON.
The preliminary phase of project atlas will put BitTorrent users on a faster network that will host torrent seeds for longer periods. The usage of tokens will ultimately lead to better swarm longevity, and quicker downloading. Using a delegated Proof of Stake System, BitTorrent will be earning more tokens through bandwidth, and storage, further ensuring that the swarms are faster, and durable.
The Delegated Proof of Stake system, means that the users/seeders who participate will exchange tokens on the available set of resources, and not mining. Addition of these features will ensure the uninterrupted working of backward-compatible protocol extensions. This means that the users can opt alternate downloading or seeding from new-generation users or torrent running client (except BitTorrent or µTorrent)
The recent advancements of BitTorrent protocols are already put into effect across desktop, and mobile tools. Continuing to make the offer available, free of cost, the company also emboldens other torrent clients to follow its path to an improved ecosystem for all.
