“I was sexually abused when I was 14” – Ira Khan

“I never spoke to anyone about anything because I assumed that my privilege meant I should handle my stuff on my own,” wrote Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan, on her Instagram handle.

The young lady has taken to her social media page and talked about things many celebrity kids have refrained from. Soon after she opened up about clinical depression saying that she has been battling it for over four years, she uploaded a video where she revealed that she was sexually abused at the age of 14.

Ira added that talking to her parents Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta helped her in getting out of the nightmarish situation. However, expectedly, apart from the positive comments, she also received immense trolls and hate for her series of posts on depression and she responded with a fitting reply. “For my posts on mental health: If you’re hateful or irrelevant once, I will delete your comment. If you do it again, I will restrict your access to my posts,” wrote Ira.

Her confession about depression was made on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, leaving everyone surprised. However, considering the vulnerable position celebrities are in, it was, in fact, brave on the part of Ira Khan to open up about such serious issues.

While different people adopt different means to cope with depression, for Ira, social media is supposedly the route that she has taken. In her most recent video, she talks about what to say and what not to say, to someone who is depressed.

Being a victim of sexual abuse may or may not be the reason for depression that she has been battling with but everyone knows that her parents Aamir Khan and his first wife Reena Dutta got divorced after around 16 years of marriage. In this regard, Ira clarified that her parents’ divorce did not in any way traumatise her.
