As Asia’s wealth surges, so do charitable contributions by its financial leaders. The most populous continent has witnessed increased philanthropic giving than ever before. Today, we bring you the list of noteworthy individual givers across the Asia-Pacific region.

The list includes the top 5 altruists in the Asia-Pacific region noted for achieving new milestones and sharing significant amounts from their personal fortunes for Charitable causes like healthcare, education, community service, and more.

  1. AZIM PREMJI – India

In FY 2021 alone, the 76-year-old Wipro founder and chairman was cited for donating an estimated $1.3 billion of his wealth for social causes through the Azim Premji Foundation. The nobleman has reportedly given almost a whopping $21 billion in his life. Premji also retained the top spot on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021.

  1. SHIV NADAR – India

Shiv Nadar, 76, founder of HCL, a $10-billion global enterprise, established Shiv Nadar Foundation in 1994. The foundation has extensively donated towards education charities, nurturing more than 13,000 students. The company has disbursed over $988 million since its inception.

Binod Chaudhary, Chairman of CG Corp Global and the head of Chaudhary Foundation, is a highly respected philanthropist in Nepal and has proven his primacy in the world of charity.

When the world witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the globe at an unprecedented rate, CG Foundation, under the supervision and directions of Nepalese billionaire Binod Chaudhary worked tirelessly and dedicated millions to enhance the medical infrastructure of Nepal and help the people of nation. Furthermore, the Foundation contributed millions of dollars to restore schools and homes destroyed or damaged by the massive earthquake. The foundation bore the costs of rebuilding thousands of homes and educational institutions.

  1. Pham Nhat Vuong – Vietnam

The Vietnam’s biggest conglomerate, managed by the country’s richest man, donated more than $320 million to pandemic relief in Vietnam since 2020. Vingroup’s contributions to the vaccine fund helped buy over 4 million Covid-19 vaccine doses and more than 30 million test kits. Furthermore, Vuong’s Kind Heart Foundation has helped communities ranging from scholarships to disaster relief.

Cho Tak Wong is the chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group, one of the leading manufacturers of auto glass across the Asia region. Cho’s Heren Charitable Foundation has pledged $1.6 billion to build a science and technology university in Fujian. Foundation also contributed a huge amount of $15.6 m to flood-relief efforts across the Henan province.

Consistent efforts and engagement by diaspora funders to help the underprivileged and people in adverse situations at scale have always yielded superior results.
