Salman F Rahman

In January 2019, Bangladesh witnessed a historic election result as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina registered a record fourth term. According to the Cabinet Division Gazette published nearly a week after the oath ceremony, Hasina appointed Salman F Rahman, the founder and vice-chairman of Beximco Group, as her adviser on private industry and investment.

Salman F Rahman in the 20 December’s election won the election from Dhaka-1 constituency and has achieved the position of a minister without salary. With this, a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is expected to be set up in the Dohar-Nawabganj area for its development. The zone is expected to improve the price of the aforementioned land as well as work towards creating better employment opportunities in the region.  

One of the most successful businessmen of Bangladesh, Salman F Rahman’s  contribution to the country’s development has been quite noteworthy. From what started out as a seafood export company, Beximco has traversed the journey of decades to expand its presence in various industries including textiles, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, real estate, energy, etc. His guidance and experience has not only strengthened the company’s presence in the country, but also enhanced the exports and consequently, the global image of Bangladesh.

Rahman’s legacy in the business sector has also transcended the private firm’s affairs as his acumen is brought to use through his involvement in the political sphere. With the recent appointment of  an advisor, Salman is expected to accelerate the pace of Bangladesh towards vision 2021 in the Sheikh Hasina led government. This comes after his experience of four decades that comprises of global markets, local infrastructure, demands, and various leadership positions. From 1994 to 1996, he was the director of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI). Currently, he is the acting president of LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh (LOAB) and Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO).

Before registering his name in the list of the seven advisers to the Prime Minister, Salman F Rahman has served in the capacity of private sector development affairs advisor of Sheikh Hasina since 2009.
